SVC clips Wolverines

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped an 8-5 decision to visiting Saint Vincent Tuesday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at R. Jack Behringer Field.

Saint Vincent (14-12, 10-4 PAC) scored seven runs over the final three innings to erase Grove City's 4-1 lead.

Senior right fielder Cameron Jones (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) opened the Grove City scoring in the second inning when his run-scoring single drove in sophomore DH J.R. Willard (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine-Richland). Jones and freshman shortstop J.R. Mountain (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) then scored on a two-run single from senior center fielder Josh Sacks (Columbia, Md./Chapelgate Christian).

Willard scored Grove City's fourth run when he came home on a sixth-inning single by junior third baseman Matt Corner (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock). Senior catcher Garrett Herald (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) closed the scoring by belting a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth.

Willard paced the Wolverines by going 2 for 3.

Senior pitcher Zach Butler (Massillon, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) started and allowed one run in six innings. He struck out four. Sophomore Chris Curran (Lyndhurst, Ohio/Brush) and freshman Ryan Gallagher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) both pitched in relief with Curran taking the setback.

Grove City will visit Thiel Friday at 3 p.m. in a single conference game.
