Grove City earns win on road

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team improved to 5-9 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by pulling out a 4-3 win at Saint Vincent Wednesday afternoon at Bearcat Ballfield.

Senior pitcher Erick Locker (Canton, Ohio/Lake Center Christian) fired a complete game for the Wolverines, allowing just one earned run over nine innings. He struck out six and walked just one.

Grove City trailed 2-0 entering the fourth inning but took the lead for good with a four-run outburst. Freshman right fielder Nolan Myers (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) and senior second baseman John Rende (West Homestead, Pa./Central Catholic) tied the game with consecutive run-scoring singles. Grove City then took the lead when freshman catcher Nick Fryer (Medina, Ohio/Medina) cracked a two-run homer.

Rende and freshman shortstop David Laylock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine-Richland) both singled twice for the Wolverines, who finished with eight hits.

Locker improved to 3-2 on the season and threw his second complete game of the season. He leads Grove City with 48 2/3 innings pitched this season.

Grove City (7-16 overall) will host Saint Vincent Thursday at 1 p.m. in a conference doubleheader at R. Jack Behringer Field.
