Wolverines fall on road

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped a 5-3 decision at Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Geneva Thursday afternoon at 33rd Street Field.

Grove City took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when junior first baseman Reese Swatsworth (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) doubled and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Geneva pulled ahead with three unearned runs in the fifth. The Tornadoes then added single runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.

In the ninth, Grove City cut the lead to 5-3 when junior left fielder Josh Hodges (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) roped a two-run double that scored Swatsworth and freshman catcher Nick Fryer (Medina, Ohio/Medina). Fryer went 3 for 4 in the game.

However, the Wolverines stranded Hodges and freshman center fielder Jimmy Palmer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) to end the game.

Senior pitcher Erick Locker (Canton, Ohio/Lake Center Christian) allowed one earned run in seven innings but took the defeat. He struck out five. Junior Chris Curran (Lyndhurst, Ohio/Brush) pitched the eighth and surrendered one run.

Grove City will host Penn State Behrend Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.
