Locker, Laylock named All-PAC

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College senior Erick Locker (Canton, Ohio/Lake Center Christian) and freshman David Laylock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine-Richland) have been selected to the 2014 Presidents' Athletic Conference baseball team, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning.

Locker was named to the All-PAC Second Team as a pitcher while Laylock was an Honorable Mention selection at shortstop. The teams are selected by a vote of the conference coaches.

Locker posted one of the finest seasons by a Wolverine starting pitcher in recent years, recording a 4-3 record with a 2.77 earned run average, .252 opponents batting average and 33 strikeouts in 61 and two-thirds innings. He also threw three complete games, including a five-hit shutout at Waynesburg on April 26.

Both Locker's ERA and opponents batting average ranked third among PAC pitchers with enough innings to qualify, and his ERA is also the lowest for a Grove City starter since Ryan Carr posted a 2.41 ERA in the 2003 season.

Locker's 10 starts are tied for fifth-most in a single season in Wolverine history while he also pitched the seventh most innings in a season. For his career, Locker ranks fourth all-time in games started, eighth in innings pitched, ninth in strikeouts and tied for 10th in appearances.

Laylock, one of just three freshman to be selected to the All-PAC teams, led the Wolverines with a .327 batting average and was also the team leader in hits (33), runs scored (21), slugging percentage (.366), walks (14) and on-base percentage (.420). He was fourth among conference freshmen in batting average and posted a respectable .932 fielding percentage.

Laylock started the season on a 10-game hitting streak and ranked second on the squad with eight multi-hit games.

The Wolverines concluded the 2014 season with a 9-25 overall record and a 7-16 record in the PAC.
