Thiel tops Wolverines in shortened game

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped an 8-1 decision to host Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference action Friday afternoon at Tomcat Park. Snow forced the game to be called in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Grove City (6-9, 2-3 PAC) grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first when freshman shortstop Drew Landis (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) doubled and then scored on a triple by sophomore first baseman Matt Waugaman (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny). Landis finished 2 for 3.

Thiel scored five runs in the bottom of the first and then scored once in the third. The Tomcats added two more runs in the sixth inning before the inclement weather.

Senior pitcher Mason Stephens (Uniontown, Ohio/Lake) yielded six unearned runs in five innings. He allowed nine singles. The Wolverines also committed four errors. Junior Ryan Gallagher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) pitched in relief.

Grove City will complete its three-game series against Thiel Monday in Greenville. The Wolverines will be the designated home team for both games of that doubleheader.
