Fritz, Waugaman, Stephens named All-PAC

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Three members of the Grove City College baseball team were honored when the Presidents' Athletic Conference released its 2015 All-Conference Teams on Tuesday morning. Sophomore catcher Andy Fritz (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch) and sophomore first baseman Matt Waugaman (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) both garnered Second Team recognition from the league’s coaches while senior pitcher Mason Stephens (Uniontown, Ohio/Lake) earned Honorable Mention.

After playing mostly as a reserve as a freshman, Fritz had a breakout sophomore campaign, leading the conference and ranking fifth among all NCAA Division III players with a .473 batting average – the second-best single-season mark in program history – as of the May 7 national rankings. Fritz also ranked fourth in the conference with a team-best .500 on-base percentage and was seventh in the conference with a .570 slugging rate.

Fritz, who also ranked second on the team with nine doubles and third with 19 runs batted in, finished the season on a 23-game hitting streak. He also posted a .965 fielding percentage behind the plate.

Waugaman ranked third in the PAC in both slugging percentage (.653) and home runs (6), leading Grove City in both categories. He also led the team with two triples and 25 RBI and ranked fourth on the team and in the top-20 in the conference with a .347 batting average.

At first base, he posted a .981 fielding percentage and was a part of 29 double plays, second-most for any individual player in the conference.

Stephens concluded his career with his best season, posting a 4-4 record and ranking eighth among qualifying league pitchers with a team-low 2.95 ERA. Stephens was third among the league's starters with a 2.07 groundout-to-flyout ratio and ninth in opponents' batting average (.276). He also recorded 37 strikeouts in 42.2 innings of work.

Grove City finished the 2015 season 14-22 overall and 9-15 in PAC play.
