April 27, 1999--
The Wolverines' bid to capture their first ever Presidents' Athletic Conference baseball title fell short in the championship game for the second straight year as host Bethany recovered from a 4-1 loss to claim the double-elimination tournament's winner-take-all 11-4 on Tuesday.

Ron Jones (Butler, PA/Knoch), who tossed a two-hitter to notch the victory in game one, put the Wolverines ahead 2-0 in the nightcap with a first-inning two-run home run (4).   Bethany rallied with four runs in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth.  Jones started the second game and took the loss (3-3).  J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University) added a two-run homer (2) in the seventh to finish 3-for-7 on the day.

Nate Kauffman (Cecil, PA/Canon-McMillan) went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs in the 4-1 victory.

Grove City, who has already set a school record for wins in a season, moved to 20-10 overall.   Bethany, winner of its first PAC title since 1996, improved to 17-13.
