May 5, 1999--Drew Hoagland (Butler, PA/Knoch) cracked a three-run home run in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie and help the Grove City College baseball team earn a split in its regular-season finale against Oberlin College of the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Hoagland's blast, his second of the season, came after Ron Jones (Butler, PA/Knoch) and J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University) opened the frame with back-to-back singles.   Jones finished 2-for-3 in the game, adding his team-high fifth tater of the season.   Louden picked up his second save in relief of Jeff Meyers (Spencerport, NY/Churchville-Chili), who upped his record to 6-1 with six strikeouts in 6-2/3 innings of work.

The Wolverines closed the regular season with the winningest record in school history at 24-13.  Oberlin, who won the opener 5-0, moved to 5-26 overall.

GCC now awaits word on a possible berth to the ECAC championship playoffs.
