Building School Spirit...

The Grove City College Cheerleading Squad cheers for all home football and basketball games and occasional away games. We do numerous things to promote school spirit, such as hanging posters and advertisements for athletic events, getting to know the players and coaches, and cheering at the games. We also decorate the locker rooms before each home game with signs, streamers, and balloons, and we also buy each player a small bag of candy. It's our way of showing how much we support them and are rooting for them. For away games, we send out "mailings", which are little good luck mail stuffers just to send each player a little word of encouragement.

During games, we do our best to get the fans excited and into the action on the field or court. We cheer along with the fans, perform stunts, and dance with the band during football games. We throw footballs and basketballs to the fans after scores, and perform halftime and time-out dances during basketball games. We have so much fun supporting and cheering for the athletes from Grove City College and are always looking for new ideas. If you have suggestions, we'd
love to hear from you!

GCC!Showing Dedication...

The cheerleading squad practices about two times per week, for approximately an hour and a half at each practice. If there is a need for more practice time, extra time is scheduled. We have a blast at both the practices and the games, and we all work so well together! We have all become such wonderful friends, and it has makes the seasons a lot more fun. The fans and the teams make our job easy, and we love cheering with them!

Making the Squad

In order to become a member of the GCC Cheerleading Squad, you must attend a tryout. They are held in early spring for the next school year. The tryout consists of the following:

  • 2 cheers/chants
  • 1 short dance
  • 1 original, individual cheer
  • 1 impromptu cheer which is taught in front of judges
  • a Russian (toe-touch) and a high kick

The squad ranges from 10-12 members, depending on interest and talent. Freshmen are unable to tryout before they are students at GCC, but if there is an open spot for the winter basketball season, freshman are invited to tryout. So if you have experience in cheerleading, keep your eyes open for announcements about tryouts! It is a wonderful opportunity and is tons of fun! If you have any further questions, please let us know.
