Building School Spirit...

The Grove City College Cheerleading Squad cheers for all home football and basketball games and occasional away games. We do numerous things to promote school spirit, such as selling personalized sports paraphernalia, coordinating crowd cheers with the band, and attending other sports events. We also encourage the players by making posters, sending good luck notes, and of course cheering for them at games.

During games, we do our best to get the fans excited and into the action on the field or court. We cheer along with the fans, perform stunts, and dance with the band during football games. We also mix and choreograph our own dances during basketball season. We have a lot of fun supporting and cheering for the athletes from Grove City College and are always looking for new ideas. If you have suggestions, we'd
love to hear from you!

GCC!Showing Dedication...

The cheerleading squad practices about two times per week, for an hour and a half at each practice. If there is a need for more practice time, extra time is scheduled. We also lift as a squad to gain strength and safety for stunting.  Cheerleaders are required to attend every practice, lifting session, and game throughout the season.

Making the Squad ...

In order to become a member of the GCC Cheerleading Squad, you must try out. They are held in early spring for the next school year. The tryout consists of the following:

  • 2 cheers/chants
  • 1 short dance
  • 1 original, individual cheer
  • 1 impromptu cheer which is taught in front of judges
  • a Russian (toe-touch) and side hurdler

The squad ranges from 10-14 members, depending on interest and talent. Men and women are welcome to try out. Freshmen are unable to tryout before they are students at GCC, but if there is an open spot for the winter basketball season, freshman are invited to tryout. So if you have experience in cheerleading, keep your eyes open for announcements about tryouts! It is a wonderful opportunity and is tons of fun! If you have any further questions, please let us know.
