Presidents down Wolverines
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Defending Presidents' Athletic Conference champion Washington and Jefferson (4-1, 3-0 PAC) held a 450-139 edge in total offense and remained atop the PAC with a 34-7 victory over Grove City Saturday afternoon at Cameron Stadium.
Steve Roberts (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) put the Wolverines on the board with a 20-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. Roberts took an inside reverse handoff from Jason Walent (Massillon, Ohio/Tuslaw) and sprinted off right tackle for the score. Roberts led Grove City with 62 yards on eight carries.
Split end Jason DeMeo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) led Grove City with four receptions for 27 yards. Defensively, Mike Prioletti (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) collected a team-high 15 tackles, including a sack. Outside linebacker Mike Love (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) sacked President quarterback Brian Dawson twice while Gene Iannuzzi (Port Jervis, N.Y./Minisink Valley) intercepted two Dawson passes.
Free safety Ross Trimmer (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) also made 11 stops while Mike Choby (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) made 10 tackles. Dan Roseum (Chesterland, Ohio/West Geauga) forced a fumble while Monte Bell (Blairsville, Pa./Blairsville) blocked a field goal.
Dawson threw three touchdown passes as part of a 223-yard afternoon. Joey Nichols ran for 167 yards on 25 attempts for Washington and Jefferson.
