Westminster runs past Grove City, 49-20
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Host Westminster amassed 496 yards of offense Saturday afternoon as the Titans downed Grove City 49-20 in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Harold Burry Stadium.
The Titans (4-3, 3-1 PAC) grabbed a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back en route to the win. Junior running back Scott Froelich ran for 204 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Westminster offense while receiver Brian Ekis caught seven passes.
Junior split end Dave DiDonato (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) hauled in six passes for 71 yards, including two touchdowns. Senior quarterback Sam Mowrey (Titusville, Pa./Titusville) completed 15 of 26 passes for 167 yards. Mowrey also ran for a team-high 87 yards on 15 carries.
Mowrey's six-yard touchdown pass to DiDonato 25 seconds into the second quarter cut Westminster's lead to 14-6. In the fourth quarter, DiDonato caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Mowrey, his sixth touchdown reception of the season.
Sophomore halfback Adam Wargo (Champion, Ohio/Champion) also scored on a one-yard touchdown run that was set up by a 39-yard scramble from Mowrey.
The Wolverines finished with 311 yards of offense and averaged five yards per play. However, the Wolverines (3-5, 2-3) committed four turnovers while Westminster did not turn the ball over. The Titans held an 11 1/2-minute edge in time of possession.
Junior linebacker Mike Choby (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) led Grove City with a season-high 16 tackles while junior inside linebacker Mike Prioletti (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) had 15 stops. Steve Weary (Fredonia, Pa./Reynolds) and Jake Tobolewski (Girard, Pa./Girard) combined for a sack.
