Grove City jumped out to a 3-0 lead three minutes into the first quarter as sophomore kicker Matt Campbell (Canton, Ohio/Canton McKinley) booted a 33-yard field goal. However, Thiel struck back with 14 first-quarter points as Dane Haskins caught an 8-yard touchdown pass and Stephen Minton scored on a 12-yard touchdown run. Thiel extended its lead to 21-3 with 11:11 left in the game as Darrell Satterfield tossed a 50-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Chambers.

Grove City slashed the lead to 21-9 midway through the fourth as junior wingback Adam Wargo (Champion, Ohio/Champion) caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Bradford Clark (Letart, W. Va./Wahama). The two-point conversion failed.

Thiel closed the game's scoring with 1:22 left as kicker Paul Stibich kicked a 34-yard field goal.
