Grove City tops Waynesburg on Senior Day

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City closed the home portion of the 2005 season Saturday afternoon with a 7-6 victory over visiting Waynesburg at Robert E. Thorn Field in Presidents' Athletic Conference football action.

Grove City (3-5, 2-3 PAC) took advantage of a pair of blocked kicks in earning its first win over Waynesburg since 2000. Midway through the fourth quarter, senior strong safety Aaron Margo (Dover, Ohio/Dover) blocked a Waynesburg punt. Junior safety Clay Piper (Mineral Point, Pa./Central Cambria) picked the ball up at the Yellow Jackets' 11 and returned it 10 yards.

On the first play of the subsequent possession, senior fullback Ken Roudybush (Worthington, Pa./Kittanning) scored on a one-yard touchdown run. Sophomore kicker Brandon McCall (Pittsburgh, Pa./Duquesne) added the decisive extra point.

Waynesburg took a 6-0 lead with 8:18 left in the first quarter as Ryan Abels raced 78 yards for a touchdown. However, Grove City senior defensive end Steve Weary (Fredonia, Pa./Reynolds) blocked the extra point. It is Weary's fifth blocked kick this year and the eighth of his career. Both are College records.

Defensively, Grove City held Waynesburg to just seven first downs and 205 yards of offense. Junior defensive tackle Jordan Johnston (Strattanville, Pa./Clarion-Limestone) had a team-high six tackles for the Wolverines.

Va./Wahama) added 46 yards on 11 attempts. Junior split end Scott Fichter (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) caught two passes for 24 yards. Clark completed three of eight attempts for 27 yards.
