Baker, Fowler earn All-Region
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City senior nose tackle Justin Fowler (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) and junior cornerback Mike Baker (Harrison City, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) both earned Third Team All-South Region over the weekend from D3Football.com. It is the first All-Region selection for either player.
A 6-foot-2, 235-pounder Fowler led Grove City in tackles for loss (7.5) and quarterback sacks (5.5) this season. He started all 10 games at nose tackle and recorded 54 total tackles. He also earned First Team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference this year after receiving Second Team All-PAC honors in 2006.
Fowler started in both of his final two seasons and earned three letters along the defensive line.
Baker emerged as one of the region's top cornerbacks in 2007 as he led the PAC in interceptions (5), pass deflections (11) and total passes defended (16). His 16 passes defended are the most in program history since that statistic's inception in the mid-1990s. Baker also had 58 total tackles, including a team-leading 43 solo stops.
Like Fowler, Baker earned First Team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference following the season. The 5-10, 185-pound Baker started all 10 games this season. He is a two-year starter and letterwinner.
Grove City finished 3-3 in the PAC, good for third place in the conference. The Wolverines finished 4-6 overall. Six of Grove City's games were decided by a touchdown or less this year.
