Wolverines fall in opener, 21-13
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College football team opened the 2014 season Saturday afternoon by dropping a 21-13 decision to visiting Juniata at rain-soaked Robert E. Thorn Field.
After Juniata took a 7-0 lead with 13:23 left in the first half on Ward Udinski's one-yard touchdown run, Grove City quickly countered and tied the game three plays later. Junior wingback Zach Rader (Butler, Pa./Butler) received an option pitch from junior quarterback Josh Peach (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) and then threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver David Folkmire (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway).
Udinski's second one-yard touchdown run of the game gave Juniata a 14-7 lead with remaining in the quarter.
Juniata carried the 14-7 lead into the fourth quarter but Grove City opened the second-half scoring early in the fourth quarter. Peach scored on a three-yard option keeper, cutting the lead to 14-13. Peach's touchdown capped a 9-play, 43-yard drive that started after an interception by sophomore safety Ned Hull (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown).
The Wolverines missed the extra point, however.
Juniata closed the scoring with 7:37 left in the game when Udinski fired a 12-yard touchdown pass to Aaron O'Brien.

Freshman safety Kyle Beyer (Perry, Ohio/Perry) and junior linebacker Bobby Tuttle (Upper Saint Clair, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) both had a team-high 11 tackles. Tuttle and Skyrm also combined on a sack. Freshman end Eric Kinderman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) recorded his first collegiate sack.
Peach made his first collegiate start at quarterback and finished 10 of 21 passing for 106 yards. He also ran for a team-leading 88 yards on 19 attempts. Junior tailback Steve Maskrey (Cranesville, Pa./Northwestern) added 54 rushing yards. Folkmire caught three passes for 54 yards.
Udinski completed 12 of 25 passes for 186 yards. He also ran for 67 yards on 20 carries. Juniata outgained Grove City 336-318.
