Geneva tops Grove City

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College football team opened the road portion of the 2014 schedule Saturday night with a 42-0 setback against Geneva at Reeves Field.

Geneva posted 21 points in the second quarter and led 28-0 at halftime. The Golden Tornadoes then added single scores in the third and fourth quarters.

Junior quarterback Josh Peach (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) led Grove City with 54 rushing yards on 11 attempts. He also completed 11 of 20 passes for 66 yards. Sophomore quarterback Aaron Lundmark (Russell, Pa./Eisenhower) threw for 80 yards on 4-for-9 passing.

Junior wide receiver David Folkmire (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) caught a career-high six passes for 38 yards. Junior Gabriel Moore (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Landmark Christian) pulled in four passes for 62 yards.

Freshman cornerback Jake Seibert (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) recorded 10 solo tackles for the Wolverine defense. Senior linebacker Jason Skyrm (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and junior linebacker Brandon Berringer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) also had 10 tackles each. Skyrm also had a sack while Berringer forced a fumble.

Sophomore punter Anthony Marnejon (Columbiana, Ohio/Crestview) averaged 42.9 yards per punt on 10 kicks.

 Geneva quarterback Aaron Channing completed 24 of 28 passes for 257 yards and three touchdowns. Geneva outgained Grove City 384-219.

Channing threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Jones with 3:32 left in the first quarter to open the scoring. Channing then threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Josh Guiser 37 seconds into the second period. Later in the second quarter, Brandon Hacker scored on a two-yard run and Ryan Mosora added an eight-yard touchdown.

Guiser caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Channing in the third quarter and Hacker's 33-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter closed the scoring.

Grove City returns to action September 27 at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Saint Vincent at 1 p.m. That will be the Wolverines' conference opener.
