CMU tops Wolverines
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College football team dropped a 44-0 decision to visiting Carnegie Mellon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at Robert E. Thorn Field.
Senior wide receiver Josh Peach (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) led Grove City with six receptions for 93 yards while sophomore running back Andrew Schauer (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) led the Wolverines on the ground with 47 rushing yards on a dozen attempts.
Junior quarterback Antonio Carroscia (Stow, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) completed 10 of 28 passes for 109 yards. Sophomore Matt Pennypacker (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) went 4 of 9 for 61 yards.
Senior linebacker Bobby Tuttle (Upper Saint Clair, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) led Grove City with 12 tackles while senior linebacker Brandon Berringer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) had 11 tackles, including three for loss. Freshman cornerback Cobie Pratt (Vienna, Ohio/Mathews) intercepted his third pass of the season. Sophomore defensive end Jacob Armbrecht (Streetsboro, Ohio/Streetsboro) recorded a sack.
Carnegie Mellon quarterback Andrew Hearon threw a pair of touchdown passes in the first quarter to give the Tartans a 13-0 lead. Sam Benger's one-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter pushed the lead to 20-0. After Gabe Renna's 23-yard field goal for CMU, Hearon threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Chris Herrera to close the first half scoring.
Hearon and Bryan Jangro each added touchdown runs in the third quarter. Hearon finished 14 of 23 for 201 yards. Benger ran for 189 yards. CMU outgained Grove City, 541-284.
Grove City will host conference foe Thomas More next Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
