Grove City falls in home finale
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College football team closed its 2015 home schedule Saturday afternoon with a 45-7 setback against visiting Westminster in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Robert E. Thorn Field.
Grove City broke through with 4:17 left in the fourth quarter when senior fullback Steve Maskrey (Cranesville, Pa./Northwestern) bulled into the end zone from the 1. Maskrey led Grove City with 44 rushing yards on 14 carries.
Junior quarterback Antonio Carroscia (Stow, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) completed 5 of 7 passes for 49 yards. Senior wide receiver Josh Peach (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) caught three passes for 36 yards.
Defensively, Grove City forced four turnovers. Freshman cornerback Daniel Jackson (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) intercepted a pass while sophomore linebacker Deion Minor (Sykesville, Md./Century) forced and recovered a fumble. Senior linebacker Bobby Tuttle (Upper St. Clair, Pa./Upper St. Clair) forced two fumbles while sophomore safety Andrew Seifert (Kettering, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) and senior end Tyler Campbell (Winchester, Va./Keystone Oaks, Pa.) both recovered fumbles.
Tuttle also had a sack, three tackles for loss and 12 total stops. Senior linebacker Brandon Berringer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) recorded a game-high 18 tackles.
Westminster quarterback Paul Columbo ran for three first-half touchdowns and also threw a touchdown pass, helping Westminster lead 38-0 at halftime. Columbo went 12 of 19 for 134 yards. He also ran for 72 yards. Domonique McKinley ran for 101 yards on 21 carries.
Grove City is now 14-3 in its last 17 Senior Day games at Thorn Field. The Wolverines will close the 2015 season next Saturday at Thiel in the 32nd annual battle for the prestigious Mercer County Cup.
