GROVE CITY, PA, December 20, 2000--Grove City College senior fullback R.J. Bowers will wear number 34 for the North squad when the 63rd annual Kelly Tires Blue-Gray All-Star Classic kicks off on Christmas Day in Montgomery, AL (Noon ET/ABC).
Bowers, college football's all-time leading rusher (7,353 yards) and scorer (652 points), is one of four running backs on the Blue team's 38-man roster. Bowers, the biggest of the four at 6'1", 241, will split time in the backfield with Michigan State's Richard Newsome (5'10-1/2", 188), Massachusetts' Marcel Shipp (5'11", 213) and Chris Barnes (6'1", 209) of New Mexico State. The starters will not be announced until the day of the game. The North team's offense will be directed by University of Illinois head coach Ron Turner.
Bowers, who has worn 33 throughout his football career, settled for 34 since the Blue squad wears all even numbers.
The first game of college football's all-star season will draw over 250 professional scouts and administrators.
Bowers will also play in the Hula Bowl on Jan. 20.
