Carla (Wetzel) Patarini '82

Carla (Wetzel) Patarini
competed in volleyball, basketball and softball, accumulating a Grove
City-record 11 varsity letters from 1978-82.
She played on seven teams that won Women’s Keystone Conference titles and six
squads that advanced to either EAIAW or NCAA postseason play.
A graduate of Knoch High School, Wetzel arrived on campus in 1978 and
immediately helped the volleyball team to a 19-3 record and the WKC title.
She earned All-WKC honors in each of her last three seasons. She captained the
team for two years and earned co-team Most Valuable Player honors as a junior.
The 1981 squad, under head coach Terry Ellis, won the WKC title for the second
straight year and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
On the basketball court, Wetzel engineered the offense at point guard all four
years. During her basketball career, the Lady Wolverines secured four straight
WKC titles and finished 66-12 overall under Coach Ellis.
The 1980-81 team advanced to the EAIAW playoffs. The following year, Grove City
became one of 16 teams to qualify for the first-ever NCAA Division III Women’s
Basketball Championship Tournament.
Women’s softball made its debut as an intercollegiate sport at Grove City in
1980, during Wetzel’s sophomore year.
Playing third base, she earned First Team All-WKC selection and team MVP honors
after leading the team to an 8-2 record in its initial season.
She graduated in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
