Dr. James Loveless

Jim Loveless coached football, basketball, swimming and track and field at Grove City College during 17 fruitful years of employment from 1937-54.
 
Loveless coached the swim team during its first 12 seasons after the programís inception in 1937. The Wolverines posted winning records in each of his final three seasons.Those three years marked the beginning of Grove Cityís ongoing streak of 57 consecutive winning seasons.
 
As football coach, the Grove City program emerged as one of the regionís finest following World War II. From 1947-49, Grove City compiled an 18-5-1 record, including a 7-1 mark in 1949.
 
He coached swimming and basketball concurrently from 1937-1942 and again from 1946-1954. The basketball team recorded eight seasons of double-digit wins under Loveless.
 
Loveless also served as assistant athletic director at Grove City during his tenure. In 1954, he returned to his alma mater, DePauw University, to serve as its director of athletics. He worked as DePauwís athletic director until retiring in 1974. DePauw inducted him into its Athletic Hall of Fame as part of the inaugural class in 1986.
 
Loveless has also been inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame and the Helms Foundation Hall of Fame.
