Grove City nets third straight win, improves to 4-1
GROVE CITY, PA, December 2, 2000--Four Wolverines scored in double-figures as Grove City rallied from a two-point halftime deficit to defeat visiting Pitt-Greensburg, 69-63. The win marked the Wolverines third straight and upped their record to 4-1 -- their best start since the 1993-94 season. Pitt-Greensburg, a 21-game winner last season, fell to 0-6.
Junior Pat Roberts (Home, PA/Marion Center) sparked the win with 15 points and a game-high seven rebounds, four steals and four blocked shots. Junior Chris Kreider (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) fired in a team-high 16 points Senior Shane Meling (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) tallied 11 points and three steals, while sophomore Andy Vlajkovich (Canfield, OH/Canfield) chipped in with 10 points.
Josh Sapotichne and Scott Winfrey paced Pitt-Greensburg with 21 and 20 points, respectively.
The Bobcats opened up a 10-4 lead and claimed a 27-25 edge at intermission when Winfrey nailed a 25-footer at the buzzer. Grove City went on a 12-4 run to start the second half, leading 37-31 at 15:57. Pitt-Greensburg rallied to take a 41-39 lead with 13:46 left, but Grove City followed with an 11-2 run and led the rest of the way.
The Wolverines play at Juniata next Thursday at 7:00
