Wolverines beat Denison in OT, 79-77
GRANVILLE, OH, December 9, 2000--Junior Chris Kreider (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) fired in a team-high 25 points, hitting 7 of 10 from the floor and 11 of 11 from the free-throw line, as Grove City (5-2) defeated host Denison (1-6) in overtime, 79-77.
Kreider, who added a game-high five steals, completed a traditional three-point play at 1:18 in overtime, giving the Wolverines a 78-75 lead. Denison countered with a bucket to cut the lead to one, but junior Pat Roberts (Home, PA/Marion Center) rounded out the scoring by sinking one of two from the line with six seconds left.
Sophomore Andy Vlajkovich (Canfield, OH/Canfield) tossed in 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting, including 3 of 5 from outside the arc. Senior Shane Meling (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) returned from a viral infection and tallied 13 points, hitting 3 of 4 threes. Roberts was 4-for-4 from the field and finished with 11 points. Meling and freshman Phil Bushre (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) grabbed a team-best eight boards each. Vlajkovich added a game-high five assists.
Denison, who trailed 39-28 at halftime, forced overtime by outscoring Grove City, 43-32 in the second half.
