Bison sweep season series from GCC

BETHANY, WV, February 3, 2001--Junior Dan Quinn (Uniontown, OH/Green) led five Wolverines in double figures with 22 points, but Grove City dropped to 12-8 overall, 3-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, losing 86-78 to host Bethany, who improved to 12-7, 4-1 in the league.

Bethany took a 42-37 edge into intermission and led through most of the second half.  Freshman Jim Fetzner (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) pulled the Wolverines to within one point, 76-75, with a three-pointer with 1:55 left to play, but Bethany scored the next seven to claim its first season sweep over Grove City since 1991-92.

Senior Shane Meling (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) chipped in with 12 points on 5-for-8 eight shooting.  Sophomore Andy Vlajkovich (Canfield, OH/Canfield) tallied 11 points, while Fetzner and junior Pat Roberts (Home, PA/Marion Center) finished with 10 each.  Meling, Vlajkovich and Fetzner each buried a pair of threes.  Roberts grabbed a team-high nine boards as the Wolverines held a 36-35 rebounding edge. Grove City outshot Bethany, 49% to 47%.

Keith Schubert netted a game-high 25 points, including four treys, for the Bison, who assumed a one-game lead over the Wolverines in the PAC standings.
