Wolverines roll to eleventh victory

BOX SCORE

ALTOONA, PA, January 12, 2002--The Grove City Wolverines survived several rallies by host Penn State Altoona before shaking the Cougars, 73-61, to improve to 11-4 overall.  Penn State Altoona remained winless, falling to 0-11.

Senior Pat Roberts (Home, PA/Marion Center), one of four Wolverines in double figures, scored a team-high 18 points, while junior Andy Vlajkovich (Canfield, OH/Canfield) tossed in 15 points.  Two Wolverines recorded double-doubles as sophomore Tanner Prosser (Pittsburgh, PA/Brentwood) posted 14 points and 11 rebounds and freshman Nate Maurer (Mount Lebanon, PA/The Linsly) finished with 12 points and a career-high 15 boards.  Maurer, who added five steals, made his first career start in place of injured sophomore Phil Bushre, who suffered a concussion on Wednesday and could miss up to four weeks.

Grove City dominated under the glass, outrebounding the Cougars, 48-25.

The Wolverines scored the first 14 points of the game and led 36-30 at halftime before Penn State Altoona cut the margin to three, 52-49, with nine minutes remaining.  Grove City recovered with a 10-2 run to take a 62-51 lead and cruised to its third win in a row and fifth victory in its last six games.

The Cougars were led by Kenny Edwards' 21 points.

With the win, the Wolverines matched their previous best start set in 1994-95 (11-4).
