Grove City wins big in PAC opener, improves to 12-4  


GROVE CITY, PA, January 16, 2002--The Grove City Wolverines used a 19-3 second-half run to propel them to a 78-60 victory over visiting Waynesburg in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener Wednesday night.

A pair of three-point plays from sophomore Tanner Prosser (Pittsburgh, PA/Brentwood) and buckets from sophomore Ian Dean (Damascus, MD/Damascus), senior Andy Vlajkovich (Canfield, OH/Canfield) and freshman Jeff Bentson (Jackson, TN/University) highlighted the run.

Prosser led the Wolverines with 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Prosser also hauled in seven rebounds while Vlajkovich poured in 17 points and added eight boards. Senior center Pat Roberts (Home, PA/Marion Center) racked up 12 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Grove City outrebounded Waynesburg 54-31. The Wolverines (12-4, 1-0 PAC) collected 18 offensive rebounds compared to just 16 defensive rebounds for Waynesburg (9-4, 0-1 PAC).

The Wolverines also held Waynesburg to 29.6 percent (21-for-71) shooting from the floor, including 5-for-26 from behind the three-point line. Meanwhile, Grove City went 33-for-65 (51 percent) from the field.

Senior Justin Sheppard (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) chipped in nine points on 4-of-4 shooting while Dean had nine boards, three assists and three steals.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 6-0 lead but fell behind by as many as four points on several occasions in the first half. A Bentson bucket late in the first half cut the Yellow Jackets' lead to 33-31 at the break.

Ray Robinson led Waynesburg with a game-high 24 points.
