Gerber earns Academic All-District
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College men's basketball player Ryan Gerber (Baltic, Ohio/Garaway) earned College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District II Third Team honors Thursday morning from the region's sports information director.
A 6-foot-1 junior guard, Gerber has played in all 22 games for Grove City (12-10, 5-5 Presidents' Athletic Conference), including 18 starts. Gerber is second on the team in scoring this season, averaging 11.4 points per game. He leads the team with 36 steals this year and is also second the team with 27 three-point goals.
Gerber is also shooting 46 percent from the floor this year and 78 percent at the foul line. He fired in a career-high 27 points Dec. 30 in an 87-77 overtime win over Wright State-Lake at the McDonald's of Bluffton Tournament. Gerber also fired in 23 points, including 20 over the final 9:36, in Grove City's 101-91 win at Westminster Jan. 17.
In the classroom, Gerber owns a 3.67 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in electrical engineering. He is a Dean's List student and has been named to the PAC's Academic Honor Roll.
This is the third straight season that a Grove City player has earned Academic All-District honors. In 2005, guard J.D. Collar earned Third Team All-District while forward Chuck Cotherman received Second Team recognition last year.
District II includes all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. To be nominated for the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
