Thiel nips Grove City, 79-76

GROVE CITY, Pa.  --  Thiel (13-10, 5-3 PAC) completed a regular-season sweep of Grove City in Presidents' Athletic Conference men's basketball action with a 79-76 victory Saturday at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City led 39-31 at the half and led by as many as 13, 50-37. However, Thiel climbed back into the game with a 16-2 run and grabbed a 53-52 lead on two free throws by guard Daryl Moore. A three from J.D. Collar (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) gave Grove City a 68-65 lead with 4:41 remaining in the game. But Thiel took the lead for good on a triple from Stephen Laird at the 2:37 mark.

Tanner Prosser (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) led Grove City (14-8, 5-3 PAC) with 21 points while Phil Bushre added 16 as both players went 8 for 12 from the floor. Prosser also had nine rebounds while Nate Maurer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Linsly School) and Andy Vlajkovich (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) each had 11 points.

Grove City shot 28 for 51 (55 percent) from the floor and out-rebounded Thiel 35-25. However, Grove City turned the ball over 24 times while Thiel committed just 10 turnovers. 

Thiel has won four straight regular season games over Grove City and now owns the head-to-head tie-breaker in determined seeds for the PAC tournament, which begins Feb. 25.
