Grove City facing Wooster in NCAA Tournament

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team will make its fifth all-time appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Friday night as the Wolverines will face the College of Wooster in an opening-round game at the Fighting Scots' Timken Gymnasium.

The game is one of two that will be played at Wooster that evening. The other pairing features Wisconsin-Whitewater (22-5) against Defiance (23-5). The doubleheader starts at 6 p.m. Start times for the specific games have not been set yet.

Grove City (19-8) earned an automatic invitation to the NCAA Tournament by capturing the Presidents' Athletic Conference title Saturday night with a 78-61 win over Thomas More in the finals of the PAC Championship Tournament.

Wooster (23-5) secured its eighth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament Saturday by defeating Wittenberg in the North Coast Athletic Conference title game, 88-77.

Grove City has not played Wooster since a 67-46 setback December 29, 1997 in Wooster. The teams first met in 1905. Wooster leads the all-time series 22-12.

Grove City is making its first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1989. The Wolverines also qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 1976, 1979, 1983 and 1989.

The winner of the Grove City-Wooster game will face the winner of the Defiance-Whitewater game Saturday night at 7 p.m.
