Case clips Grove City in overtime

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 4-1 Saturday afternoon with a 72-68 overtime loss to visiting Case Western Reserve in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

The Wolverines trailed by as many as 11 in the second half, 52-41, but rallied to force a 57-57 tie with 1:22 left on a three-pointer from senior guard Mike Lukcic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic). Lukcic finished with 13 points, including 4-for-4 accuracy from three-point territory.

After CWRU's Jeremy Sallee gave the Spartans a 59-57 lead, Grove City senior forward Ryan Eller (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) sank a pair of free throws to tie the game with 32 seconds left. CWRU held for the final shot but Carson Oren's jump shot missed the mark.

In overtime, Case Western closed the game with a 7-1 run. Sallee tied the game with a layup while a three-point play from Mason Conrad put the Spartans (2-4) ahead to stay.

Eller led Grove City with 16 points while sophomore guard Bobby Glass (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) drained four three-pointers as part of a 12-point effort. Senior Matt Phillips (Bainbridge, Ohio/Kenston) added 10 points.

Oren led all scorers with 23 points while Sallee added 16 points. Case Western outrebounded Grove City, 45-36. The loss snaps Grove City's eight-game regular season winning streak. It also ends Grove City's seven-game home win streak.

The Wolverines host Kenyon Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
