Wolverines run past Averett for 6th win

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Senior forward Ryan Eller (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) fired in 24 points, including four three-point goals, while senior center Phil Bushre (Swartz Creek, Mich./Swartz Creek) added 21 points and eight rebounds on 9 of 11 shooting Saturday afternoon to help lead the Grove City College men's basketball team to a 90-79 win over Averett (Va.) in the consolation game of the DeSales University Casa Mia Holiday Tournament.

Eller also added six assists and six rebounds in the win, earning All-Tournament honors. Senior guard J.D. Collar (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) fired in 19 points, including four three-pointers, and dished out four assists. As a team, the Wolverines were 10 of 19 (53 percent) beyond the arc. Overall, Grove City shot 61.5 percent (32 of 52) from the floor.

The Wolverines (6-7) closed the first half with a 12-2 run and led 45-34 at the break. Grove City maintained its double-digit lead for much of the second half. The Wolverines sealed the win by draining six straight foul shots down the stretch. Grove City went 16 for 19 (84 percent) at the foul line. For the season, Grove City is shooting 74.4 percent at the line.

The Wolverines owned a 27-22 rebounding edge. Senior point guard Mike Lukcic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) had five steals while sophomore forward Mark Smith (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) had four assists.

Grove City returns to action Thursday night at Juniata at 7:30 p.m.
