Bison snap Grove City win streak

BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 11-8 overall and 4-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon with a 72-67 loss to Bethany (16-3, 4-1 PAC) at Hummel Field House. The loss snaps Grove City's six-game win streak and drops the Wolverines into a first-place tie in the PAC.

Four Wolverines scored in double figures, led by 15 points from senior guard J.D. Collar (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson). Senior center Phil Bushre (Swartz Creek, Mich./Swartz Creek) tossed in 14 points while senior point guard Mike Lukcic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) and senior forward Ryan Eller (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) each added 11 points.

Grove City fell behind 22-7 in the first half but eventually pulled to within 32-30 by halftime. Bethany held the lead throughout the second half as Grove City could not surge ahead. Bethany took advantage of two offensive rebounds off missed free throws in the final seconds to help seal the win.

Grove City shot 23 of 48 (48 percent) from the floor while Bethany made 24 of 48 (50 percent) attempts. The Bison also shot 10 of 20 from three-point territory. Mike Drahos led Bethany with 20 points while Scott Mezyk had 17. Matt Drahos posted a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double.

Bethany out-rebounded Grove City, 31-25. Bushre had seven boards and four steals for the Wolverines. Grove City also went 18 for 22 at the foul line.

The Wolverines will visit Westminster next Saturday at 4 p.m.
