Presidents end Grove City's season

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team closed the 2004-05 season Thursday night with a 69-57 loss to third-seeded Washington and Jefferson (10-17) in the semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at the Grove City College Arena.

The Presidents will play top-seeded Bethany in Saturday night's championship game at 7:30. Second-seeded Grove City finishes the season 13-12, the program's fifth straight winning season.

Washington and Jefferson broke a 28-28 tie in the second half with a 10-0 run. Grove City pulled to within 50-45 with 5:07 left but the Wolverines could get no closer.

Senior forward Ryan Eller (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) led the Wolverines with 17 points. He moved into 18th place on Grove City's all-time scoring list with 1,068 points. Senior center Phil Bushre (Swartz Creek, Mich./Swartz Creek) added 10 points for the Wolverines. Bushre finished the season with 381 points, the 17th-highest single-season total in Grove City history.

Senior point guard Mike Lukcic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) grabbed six rebounds, helping the Wolverines own a 38-37 edge. Brandon Studer led the Presidents with 24 points, including five three-point goals. Washington and Jefferson committed just six turnovers.
