Grove City earns first win

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Five Grove City players scored in double figures Wednesday night as the visiting Wolverines earned a 75-68 victory over Medaille in non-conference men's basketball action at the Sullivan Center. Grove City improved to 1-3 with the victory.

Sophomore guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) fired in a team-high 16 points, including three three-point goals. He also pulled in a career-high nine rebounds.

Freshman guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) and freshman forward Daniel Zacour (Wooster, Ohio/Kidron Central Christian) each scored 12 points off the bench while sophomore guards Ryan Gerber (Baltic, Ohio/Garaway) and Joe Capotosta (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) each scored 11.

Zacour, who shot 5 of 7 from the floor, also grabbed seven rebounds. Gibson added five boards while Gerber distributed four assists.

Grove City fell behind 9-0 early but stormed back with an 18-4 blitz. The Wolverines then closed the first half with an 8-0 run, giving Grove City a 35-25 halftime lead. Medaille trimmed the lead to 47-45 with 10 minutes left but a pair of Carr threes helped break the game open.

Senior guard Matt Phillips (Bainbridge, Ohio/Kenston) dished out five assists for the Wolverines. Grove City out-rebounded the Mavericks, 42-29. It is the first time that Grove City has out-rebounded an opponent this year.

The Wolverines will host Juniata Monday night, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
