Thiel tops Grove City, 75-70

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Grove City College men's basketball team led host Thiel 37-29 at halftime Wednesday night but that lead dissipated in the second half as the Tomcats rallied for a 75-70 win over Grove City (8-14, 4-5 PAC) in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia.

Thiel (4-18, 1-8 PAC) shot 15 of 21 (71 percent) from the floor in the second half. Grove City shot just 7 of 19 (37 percent) in the second half and committed 21 turnovers for the game. The Wolverines also went the final 6:50 of the game without a field goal.

Sophomore guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) led Grove City with a game-high 20 points, including three three-point goals. He now has 43 threes this year, seven short of tying Dave Pifer's single-season record of 50, set in both 1998-99 and 1999-2000.

Sophomore guard Ryan Gerber (Baltic, Ohio/Garaway) added 12 points. Sophomore forward Bobby Turner (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) grabbed a team-high five rebounds, helping Grove City own a 29-22 edge on the glass. The Wolverines also tied a season-high with 10 three-point goals.

Damien Williams led Thiel with 22 points and seven rebounds. The game featured 14 ties and 13 lead changes.

Grove City will visit Waynesburg Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
