Waynesburg eliminates Grove City, 67-60

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 67-60 decision to host Waynesburg Tuesday night in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament quarterfinals at the Rudy Marisa Field House.

Fourth-seeded Waynesburg (15-10) closed the game with a 24-6 run. Grove City, the No. 5 seed, did not score from the field over the final 7:29 of the game. Grove City closes the season with a 9-17 record.

Sophomore guard Ryan Gerber (Baltic, Ohio/Garaway) led Grove City with a career-high 21 points while sophomore guard Joe Capotosta (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) added 15 points. Senior guard Matt Phillips (Bainbridge, Ohio/Kenston) fired in 11 points.

As a team, the Wolverines were 9-for-21 behind the three-point line. Grove City went 8 of 12 on three-point attempts in the first half and led 40-30 at halftime.

Waynesburg took the lead for good, 59-58, with 3:18 left on a Jeff Nero three-pointer. Nero led Waynesburg with 17 points while Beau Wilson added 15.

Grove City out-rebounded Waynesburg 35-31 but the Wolverines turned the ball over 22 times. Waynesburg will play Westminster in Thursday night's PAC semifinals.
