Waynesburg edges Grove City in OT, 89-82

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Visiting Waynesburg rallied from a five-point deficit in the final minute of regulation, then outscored Grove City 12-5 in overtime to earn an 89-82 win over the host Wolverines in Presidents' Athletic Conference men's basketball action at the Grove City College Arena Saturday afternoon.

Waynesburg guard Tim Drakeley tied the game at 77-77 with a buzzer-beating three-pointer at the end of regulation. The Yellow Jackets (4-2, 1-0 PAC) led wire-to-wire in overtime.

After owning a 37-28 lead at halftime Grove City (2-4, 0-1 PAC) led throughout the second half. The Wolverines led by as many as 12, 58-46, before Waynesburg began its comeback.

Junior guard Ryan Gerber (Baltic, Ohio/Garaway) led the Wolverines with 19 points while senior forward Mark Smith (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) added 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Sophomore guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) fired in 14 points and also had a career-high nine assists. Senior center Craig Hallman grabbed seven rebounds, helping the Wolverines own a 40-26 rebounding edge.

Waynesburg shot 51 percent (26 of 51) from the floor while Grove City went 28 of 58 (48 percent). The Wolverines were whistled for 30 fouls in the game. Waynesburg made 25 of 43 foul shots.

Beau Wilson led Waynesburg with 22 points while Marc Lodovico scored 19. Drakeley added 17, including five three-point goals.

Grove City will visit Kenyon Monday night at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
