Grove City tops host Kenyon, 76-70

GAMBIER, Ohio – Junior guard Ryan Gerber (Baltic, Ohio/Garaway) fired in a career-high 23 points Monday night, helping the Grove City College men's basketball team earn a 76-70 win at Kenyon (5-5) in non-conference action at the Kenyon Athletic Center.

Gerber fired in 14 points during the second half as Grove City (3-4) withstood a late Kenyon run to preserve the win. Senior center Craig Hallman (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) added 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting while junior guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) contributed 13 points and six assists. Junior guard Joe Capotosta (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) also reached double-figures with 10 points.

Grove City fell behind 5-0 early but stormed back with a 24-8 blitz. The Wolverines led 36-26 at the half and led by as many as 15, 71-56, in the second half. The Wolverines limited Kenyon to just 37 percent (22 of 59) shooting from the floor for the game. Grove City went 28 of 57 (49 percent) from the field for the game, including a 15-for-26 (58 percent) effort in the second half. Grove City also out-rebounded the Lords, 38-37. Each team had 17 turnovers.

Bryan Yelvington led Kenyon with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Grove City now leads the all-time series, 6-1.

Grove City will host Hiram Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in non-conference action.
