Bethany tops Grove City, 75-63

BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 5-7 overall and 0-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon with a 75-63 loss to host Bethany (9-4, 2-0) at Hummel Field House.

Bethany pulled out to a 37-33 halftime lead and eventually extended the lead to 56-46 with 7:30 left in the second half. Grove City quickly trimmed the lead to 56-50 on back-to-back layups from senior center Craig Hallman (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) and sophomore guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover). However, Bethany sealed the win with a 16-6 spurt down the stretch.

Grove City shot 46 percent (27 of 59) from the floor and held the Bison to just 43 percent (23 of 53) shooting from the field. However, Bethany went 19 of 23 at the foul line. Grove City made three of five attempts.

Senior forward Mark Smith (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) led Grove City with 13 points while junior guard Joe Capotosta (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) added 10 points.

Ryan Besancon led Bethany with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The Bison out-rebounded Grove City, 35-30. Each team had 15 turnovers. Bethany has now won 26 straight PAC games, extending their league record.

Grove City will visit Thiel Wednesday night in PAC action at 7:30 p.m. in Greenville.
