Grove City wins 2nd straight

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Three Grove City players scored in double figures Monday night, helping lift the host Wolverines to a 68-58 win over visiting Penn State Beaver (6-8) in non-conference men's basketball action at the Grove City College Arena.

Senior center Craig Hallman (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) led Grove City with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting while junior guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) fired in 14 points. Carr also had a game-high eight rebounds and five assists.

Meanwhile, senior forward Mark Smith (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) added 10 points.

Grove City (7-8) used a 9-0 run midway through the second half to break the game open. Carr and Hallman sparked the run with back-to-back baskets. Penn State Beaver eventually closed to within 63-58 with one minute left but Carr drained four straight free throws to help seal the win. It is Grove City's second straight win and third straight win in the College Arena.

Grove City owned a 34-24 rebounding edge. The Wolverines also committed just 10 fouls in the game.

Joe Daransky led Beaver with 24 points while Delon Bournes added 17.

Grove City will visit Presidents' Athletic Conference archrival Westminster Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
