Wolverines topple Titans, 101-91

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Sophomore guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) fired in 24 points and distributed a career-high 11 assists while junior guard Ryan Gerber (Baltic, Ohio/Garaway) poured in 23 points to help lead the Grove City College men's basketball team to a come-from-behind 101-91 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference archrival Westminster Wednesday night at Memorial Field House. It is Grove City's third straight victory.

Five Wolverines (8-8, 1-3 PAC) scored in double figures. In addition to Gibson and Gerber, junior guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) fired in 15 points while senior center Craig Hallman (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) added a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double. Freshman swingman Clay Hurley (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville) came off the bench to contribute a career-high 10 points on 3-of-3 shooting.

Grove City trailed 49-42 at the half but charged back in the second half. Grove City shot 16 of 21 (76 percent) from the floor in the second half in outscoring the Titans (10-6, 3-1), 59-42. For the game, Grove City went 32 of 52 (61.5 percent) from the field, including an 11-for-16 effort behind the three-point line.

Gerber drained a three-pointer with 8:40 left that gave Grove City a 68-66 lead. Gerber added a three-point play down the stretch that helped secure the win.

Carr drained four three-pointers and grabbed seven rebounds while Gibson also had seven boards. Grove City out-rebounded the Titans, 41-29. Senior forward Mark Smith (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) added nine points and four assists, including a pair of thunderous dunks.

Grove City went 26 of 32 (81 percent) at the foul line. The Wolverines also limited Westminster's perimeter-oriented offense to just 29 percent (12 of 41) shooting from three-point territory. Greg Rosatelli led Westminster with 19 points. It is Grove City's first win at Westminster since 2003. 

Grove City will visit Thomas More Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in PAC play.
