Five in a row for Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team earned its fifth straight victory Wednesday night, securing a 74-59 win over Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Washington & Jefferson in the Grove City College Arena. Grove City is now 10-8 overall and 3-3 in the PAC.

Senior center Craig Hallman (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) posted a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double for Grove City. Hallman went 6-for-6 from the floor and did not commit a turnover in 27 minutes. Junior guard Ryan Gerber (Baltic, Ohio/Garaway) led Grove City with 16 points while junior guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) added 13.

Defensively, Grove City limited W&J (6-12, 3-3) to just seven second-half field goals on 19 attempts (36.8 percent).

Grove City trailed 34-33 late in the first half but a Hallman tip-in at the buzzer gave Grove City a 35-34 lead at the half. Hallman then opened the second half with back-to-back baskets, sparking a 12-2 run for the Wolverines. Grove City maintained a double-digit lead for the final 13 minutes of the game.

Grove City shot 48 percent (25 of 52) from the floor for the game while W&J went 20 of 48 (42 percent). W&J held a 32-28 edge on the glass. Jon Koch led W&J with 14 points while Brandon Studer added 13.

It is Grove City's 13th straight home win against W&J. The Wolverines now own a 50-47 edge in the all-time series. The 15-point margin of victory is Grove City's largest this season.

Grove City will visit Waynesburg Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in PAC action. Wednesday night's game capped the first half of the conference schedule for all eight conference teams.
