Grove City completes sweep of Geneva
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team completed its first season sweep of visiting Geneva in 19 years Saturday afternoon as the Wolverines earned 67-60 home victory at the Grove City College Arena. Grove City is now 12-6 overall.
Junior guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) fired in 15 points for Grove City while senior guard Joe Capotosta (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) poured in a dozen points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field. Capotosta scored 14 in the teams' first meeting Nov. 30, a 75-74 Grove City win at Geneva.
Sophomore center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) added 10 points for Grove City.
Grove City led 32-27 at halftime and extended the lead to 41-31 less than six minutes into the second half. Capotosta drilled a three-pointer with 14:34 left in the game to give Grove City a 10-point lead. Later in the half, Grove City scored 10 straight points in the paint in taking its biggest lead of the game, a 62-43 advantage with 4:39 left.
Grove City limited Geneva to just 39 percent (23 of 59) shooting from the field for the game. The Wolverines shot 24 of 48 (50 percent), including a 13-for-24 effort in the second half. Grove City also committed just 11 turnovers. The Wolverines are now 5-0 when leading at halftime.
Greg McDivitt led Geneva (10-8) with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Grove City will visit Westminster Wednesday at 8 p.m.
