W&J tops Grove City

WASHINGTON, Pa. ' The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 75-41 decision to host Washington & Jefferson Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Henry Memorial Center.

Grove City shot just 15 of 45 (33 percent) from the field while allowing W&J to shoot 23 of 47 (49 percent) for the game. W&J made 14 of 25 second-half shots from the floor in outscoring Grove City 45-21 over the final 20 minutes.

Junior center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) led Grove City with eight points while senior Joe McCoy (Newark, Ohio/Newark) and freshman Cody Fleeger (Butler, Pa./Butler) both had six points.

Grove City (10-8, 4-4 PAC) fell behind 11-3 in the first half but eventually closed the gap to 26-20 late in the half on a jumper from senior guard David Crosby (Williamsville, N.Y./Christian Central). W&J (13-6, 4-3) pushed the lead back to 30-20 by halftime. The Presidents then maintained their double-digit lead throughout the second half.

Josip Lucic-Jozak led W&J with 20 points and 11 rebounds. W&J out-rebounded Grove City 35-22.

W&J went 21 for 26 at the foul line while Grove City made four of 12 foul shots.

Grove City is off until next Saturday, February 7, when the Wolverines host Thomas More in conference action at 3 p.m. as part of Hall of Fame Day at the College.
