Balanced effort carries Grove City

LATROBE, Pa. ' Four Grove City players scored in double figures Saturday night to help lift the Wolverines (9-7) to a 79-66 win at Saint Vincent in a clash of Presidents' Athletic Conference members at the Carey Center.

Senior center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) poured in 16 points while sophomore guard Brett Matson (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) recorded 13 points. Sophomore forward Drew Vandermeer (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) posted a dozen points and senior Joe McCoy (Newark, Ohio/Newark) added 11 points, including three three-point goals.

Grove City shot 53 percent (31 of 58) from the floor and also owned a 36-22 rebounding advantage. The Wolverines jumped out to a 7-1 lead and never trailed in the game.

Grove City extended its lead to 37-26 by halftime. The lead swelled to 47-29 on a McCoy three-pointer with 16 minutes left in the second half.

Saint Vincent (5-11) closed to within 10, 53-43, but O'Keefe answered with a three-point play. O'Keefe grabbed nine rebounds and handed out four assists for Grove City. Matson had five assists and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Cody Fleeger (Butler, Pa./Butler) tallied four assists.

Saint Vincent shot 51 percent (23 of 45) from the field. B.J. McGill led all scorers with 24 points. He also had six assists.

Saturday night's game does not count in the league standings due to Saint Vincent's provision membership status in NCAA Division III.

Grove City hosts Westminster Wednesday at 8 p.m.
