Wolverines hold off Penn State Beaver

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team overcame 25 turnovers Tuesday night to secure a 63-59 win over visiting Penn State Beaver (0-3) in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena. The Wolverines are now 2-2 overall.

Grove City led 25-17 at halftime and extended the lead to 32-20 in the second half. Penn State Beaver eventually slashed the lead to 53-51 with less than three minutes remaining but senior guard Bryn Moran (Columbus, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) drained a three-pointer to give the Wolverines a five-point lead.

On Grove City's next possession, senior forward Luke Tomaselli (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) converted a turnover into a layup, pushing the lead to 58-51. Tomaselli finished with 12 points. Junior guard Brett Matson (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) paced the Wolverines with 13 points and four assists and junior guard Cody Fleeger (Butler, Pa./Butler) added 10 points.

Moran and junior Mike Grist (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington) each scored eight points. The eight points are a career high for each player.

Grove City shot 55 percent (24 of 44) from the field while holding the Lions to 38 percent (19 of 50) accuracy. Grove City held a 29-26 edge on the glass. Tomaselli grabbed a team-high five rebounds.

Nick Miller led Penn State Beaver with 13 points and Billy Stoughton added 12.

Grove City is now 11-2 in home openers under head coach Steve Lamie. The Wolverines have won five straight home openers.

Grove City opens Presidents' Athletic Conference play December 1 at Thomas More at 7:30 p.m.
