Grove City drops league opener

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play Wednesday night with a 65-44 setback at Thomas More (3-2, 1-0 PAC) at the Connor Convocation Centre.

Thomas More jumped out to a 23-5 lead in the first half and led 37-17 at halftime. The Wolverines could get no closer than 17 in the second half.

Junior forward Mike Grist (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington) led the Wolverines (2-3, 0-1) with eight points and senior Luke Tomaselli (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) added seven points.

Grove City shot just 29 percent (5 of 17) from the field in the first half. For the game, Grove City made 14 of 38 (37 percent) field attempts. Thomas More shot 48 percent (26 of 54) from the floor.

Colt Stafford led the Saints with 17 points and Aaron Miller tossed in 15. Miller also had a game-high seven rebounds but Grove City owned a 28-26 edge on the glass. Junior guard Cody Fleeger (Butler, Pa./Butler) led Grove City with six rebounds.

Grove City turned over the ball 18 times while Thomas More had just eight miscues.

Grove City will host Washington & Jefferson Saturday at 3 p.m. in conference action.
