Waynesburg edges Wolverines

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 63-57 decision to visiting Waynesburg Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena. Grove City is now 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Waynesburg closed the game on a 10-2 run over the final 2:30. Nick Herman's layup with 1:38 remaining broke a 55-55 tie. Jeff Young then helped seal the win in the final 30 seconds by hitting a free throw, grabbing the offensive rebound off his own missed foul shot and then fashioning a three-point play that gave the Yellow Jackets (3-3, 1-1 PAC) a 61-55 lead with 24 seconds left.

Grove City trailed 29-21 at halftime and by as many as 12, 38-26, in the second half. The Wolverines charged back, though, and took their first lead of the second half with 4:43 left when junior guard Brett Matson (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) put Grove City up 52-51 with a layup.

Senior forward Luke Tomaselli (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) led Grove City with 16 points. Matson and junior guard Sam Barnhill (Mansfield, Ohio/Ontario) both added 11 points. Young and Luke Baker each fired in 14 points for Waynesburg.

Grove City shot 36 percent (18 of 50) from the field. Waynesburg converted 19 of 56 (34 percent) field goal attempts. Both teams had 40 rebounds. Tomaselli led Grove City with nine rebounds.

Grove City will host Hiram Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
