Geneva tops Grove City, 71-59

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 71-59 decision to host Geneva Wednesday night in a clash of Presidents' Athletic Conference foes at Metheny Field House. Grove City had won each of its last four games at Geneva prior to Wednesday's setback.

Geneva (10-4) broke open the game with a 16-4 run in the first half. The Golden Tornadoes led 40-25 at halftime and then opened the second half with an 8-2 run.

Freshman guard Evan Schell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oliver) led Grove City with a career-high 15 points, including three three-point goals. Juniors Brett Matson (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) and Sam Barnhill (Mansfield, Ohio/Ontario) each added nine points for the Wolverines.

Matson also had six assists while senior guard Bryn Moran (Columbus, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) led the Wolverines with a career-high eight rebounds.

Dave Phillips led Geneva with 22 points and eight rebounds. Bryan Hill added 17 points. Geneva shot 44 percent (23 of 52) from the field while Grove City made 23 of 61 (38 percent) attempts. Geneva owned a 41-30 edge on the glass.

Grove City (4-10) will host Saint Vincent Saturday at 3 p.m.
